St. Mary’s College Core Value Banners
Problem.
St. Mary’s College is a liberal arts college for Women and the sister college to Notre Dame. Every year they select a core value as a focus for the whole community. The goal is to highlight these values on the campus through banners.
Solution.
Heather created banners that reflected not only the core values but more. She developed a unique style for this year’s core value of justice that reflected the art/sculpture on the campus. She created all four banners to coordinate visually with each other and included images such as doves, angels, justice, and raised fists to represent solidarity with social justice causes. Heather will be working with the organization for over three years.
“We are delighted that the artist, Heather Schieder, has agreed to work with Saint Mary’s College in the years ahead,” Gower said. “She has agreed to illustrate our core values over the next three years so that we will have a complete series of her illustrations of our core values.” Speaking about continuing the mission of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, Gower described the ultimate purpose of the banners — to honor diversity in the College community. The Sisters of the Holy Cross founded us to be a college committed to learning, faith/spirituality, community, and justice,” Gower said. “These commitments lead us to see diversity as good and to be inclusive and welcoming.”
